CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
MalaktaLab for dance film
Dance Film Workshop with international award-winning dance film director, David Hinton July 31st to August 3rd 2014, Maalahti, Malax, Finland
A unique opportunity for choreographers and film-makers to develop their skills in the rapidly growing field of dance for the screen, with the award winning English director and film teacher David Hinton.
The focus of the dance film laboratory is on experiment and creativity. Participants will work together collaboratively on different ways of combining film and dance.
This hands-on, in-depth workshop will explore the marriage of these two moving mediums. There will be lively discussions and screenings, but the main focus will be on practical work, exploring the technical and artistic challenges involved in producing a dance film. Each choreographer and film-maker will get to create their own short video.
David Hinton is a director who has made television documentaries about artists of all kinds including painter Francis Bacon, film-maker Bernardo Bertolucci, comedian John Cleese and rock’n’roller Little Richard. He has made well-known film versions of stage shows by DV8 Physical Theatre, and he has worked with dancers of all kinds, from Adventures in Motion Pictures to the Royal Swedish Ballet. He has also worked with several choreographers to create original dance works for the screen. He has twice won British Academy awards for his documentaries, and his dance films have won many awards, including a Prix Italia for STRANGE FISH, and an Emmy for TWO BY DOVE. He has won the IMZ Dance Screen Award three times, for DEAD DREAMS OF MONOCHROME MEN, BIRDS and NORA.
