MDFL 2018 – BACK TO BASICS: RHYTHM AND FRAME
Malakta Dance Film Lab
Marlene Millar & Philip Szporer 16th – 19th August 2018
Art Factory Malakta, Malax, Finland
Malakta Dance film Lab (MDFL) is an established international gathering of dance film makers, choreographers and dancers at Art Factory Malakta. The MDFL gives participants the opportunity to explore the dance film genre both hands-on and in-depth, through collaborative experimentation and creation in an open and inspiring atmosphere opening up new ways of working with dance and film. Art Factory Malakta, in collaboration with the Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia has been arranging intensive dance film labs since 2012.
The laboratory is led by the Light Moves Festival Prize for Outstanding Overall Work (2017), CINEDANS 2nd Prize (2018) and the Dance for Camera Audience Award (2018) winners Marlene Millar (CA) and Philip Szporer (CA), co-directors of the Montréal-based dance-media company, Mouvement Perpetuel.
The theme for the Lab 2018 is Back to Basics: Rhythm and Frame An opportunity for directors and choreographers dedicated to the field of dance film to put their practice to the test by exploring the fundamentals of dance on screen. Marlene and Philip will open the door onto their creative process and inspire participants to put their ideas into production, develop technical skills, and jumpstart their creativity.
